What is bee wax? Bees pollinate flowers and thereby help to move around the genetic material that makes natural environments work.
Bees help intrinsically in the ecosystem and in return they collect pollen from flowers. It is from flowers that bees make honey and wax. The bees use wax as a means of covering the comb where they store their honey by effectively capping the comb with wax. |
What are the beneficial properties of bee wax? The wax is made of pollen, mixed with substances secreted by the bees, and has many interesting properties.
The pertinent proterties for our candles are that:
- bee wax candles burn without producing any smoke
- bee wax candles are safe and healthy to burn
- bee wax contains an enzyme that naturally purifies and cleans the air, rather than masking odors in the air with artificial scents
- these same enzymes hang in the air and clean one's skin
| What about other kinds of wax? Palm wax is cool.
Soy wax is also a natural wax, but it doesn't have any of the beneficial properties of bee wax.
Paraffin wax is the most common wax used to make candles, and is a byproduct from the petro chemical industry. Think of it as lighting a flame on gasoline, the fumes will kill ya |
